What
we Believe
Eternal
Life Baptist Church is known for
being a conservative Southern Baptist Church
which believes in the basic, fundamental
doctrines of Scripture. As such, we ascribe to a
number of beliefs which we state herein:
We believe in the Holy Bible as
the divinely inspired Word of God with God for its author,
salvation for its end, and truth, without any error for its
subject matter.
We believe there is only one
true and living God and that He reveals Himself to us as God the
Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, three persons and
yet one God.
God
the Father
We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal
spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We
believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of
men, that He hears and answers prayer. We believe that God
is loving and compassionate, just and kind, and that His deepest
desire is to live in an intimate relationship with all people.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 26:19: I Corinthians 8:6
God
the Son
We believe that because of His desire to live in
relationship with us, God became a human being in the person of
Jesus Christ. Thus, we believe that Jesus Christ is
God in the flesh, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and
through his sacrificial, substitutionary, atoning death and
victorious bodily resurrection Jesus made it possible for all
people to live in a relationship with God. We believe that Jesus
Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Through him and him
alone can people enter into a relationship with God. We
believe that Jesus is presently interceding perpetually for His
people, and that one day he will return, personally and visibly,
to earth to establish his eternal kingdom.
God
the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the presence of God among
us. We believe that Holy Spirit came forth from the Father
and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and
judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who
believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit
indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding
helper, teacher and guide. We believe that the Holy Spirit
gives gifts to every believer to enable him or her to share in
the ministry of God’s purposes in the world. We believe in all
the biblical gifts of the Spirit and encourage people to
discover and use their gifts properly for the benefit of God’s
Kingdom.
We believe Jesus Christ was absolutely dead
having died in our place. He was literally raised
from the dead by the Power of God. Being dead for
three days, He was "quickened" by the
power of the Holy Spirit and brought back to life
literally. By being raised from the dead He
conquered death forever, and every Christian is
victorious over death as well. His literal
resurrection provides our literal victory over
death.
We believe Salvation is offered freely to all who accept
Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Man was created in the image of God but fell through sin,
bringing not only physical death, but also spiritual death on
all men. It is only
through the substitutionary death of the Lord Jesus Christ on
the cross that we can be made alive.
It is through simple faith, not works or religion, that
we can have eternal, abundant life. Romans 3:10-23, 5:8-10,
6:23; I Corinthians 5:14-21; Ephesians 2:8-10.
Salvation includes:
REPENTANCE -- a genuine turning from
sin toward God through faith in Jesus.
REGENERATION --the new birth whereby
believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus.
SANCTIFICATION--being set aside for God’s
purposes and growing in grace and knowledge of Him.
GLORIFICATION--the final blessed and
abiding state of the redeemed.
We believe Jesus Christ promised that He would
come again just as He went into heaven (John 14:1-4). He
will soon come again in the air to catch up His Church and to
judge and reward their service. No one knows when
He is coming. That is known only by God Himself (Matthew
24:42-44),
but it could happen at any moment (1 Thessalonians 5:1-4). It is
imminent. Our Hope is found in the fact that
Jesus is our Savior and that He is coming again. The
unbelievers that are left behind will go through a period called
the Great Tribulation, after which Christ will return to the
earth to set up His kingdom of one thousand years of righteous
rule. At the end of the Millennium, the unbelievers of all
the ages will stand before the Great White Throne judgment and
then be cast into the Lake of Fire, separated from God for
eternity, while the believers will enter into an eternity of joy
in Heaven with the Lord. Matthew 29:29-42; I Thessalonians
4:16-18; Revelation 19:11-20:13.
In
addition to these things, we adhere to the
Baptist Faith and Message of 2000 which is a
doctrinal position statement adopted by the
Southern Baptist Convention of which we are a
part.
If you have any questions about the aspects of
doctrinal position of Eternal Life, the statements
